100MW Fuel Cell Power Integration Accelerates RE100 and ESG Initiatives, Bolstering AI DDC Competitiveness

[June 26, 2025, Seoul] Inuverse Co., Ltd., a developer of next-generation AI-specialized hyperscale data centers, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with FuelCell Energy (FCE), a leading U.S. eco-friendly energy company. This MOU focuses on establishing fuel cell-based power supply within the 'AI Daegu Data Center (AI DDC)'. This collaboration is recognized as a pivotal strategy for Inuverse to address the surging data processing demands of the AI era while proactively achieving its RE100 and ESG management objectives.

1. Sustainability Emerges as a Core Agenda for AI Data Centers

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is driving an unprecedented surge in data processing and storage demands, propelling the exponential growth of the data center industry. According to market research firms, the global AI data center market is projected to grow from 15.13 billion in2024 to 94.03 billion by 2032, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.9%. This explosive growth inevitably entails substantial power consumption, making environmental sustainability a critical industry agenda for data centers. Global IT giants such as Google and Microsoft are already committing significant investments to build eco-friendly data centers, targeting RE100 achievement by 2030.

An Inuverse official stated, “With the advent of the Physical AI era, the stability and sustainability of data center infrastructure have become indispensable. Our collaboration with FCE is an eco-friendly strategy for realizing RE100 and a significant milestone for Inuverse in achieving global-standard ESG data centers.”

2. Synergy Between FCE's Fuel Cell Technology and AI DDC's Eco-Friendly Vision

Inuverse plans to integrate approximately 100MW of fuel cell-based power generation facilities into the AI DDC. This will serve as a crucial component to maximize the data center's carbon neutrality and energy independence, complementing the existing 150MW + 150MW (reserve) power secured from KEPCO.

FCE is a global leader in hydrogen and biogas-based fuel cell technology, possessing innovative solutions such as Molten Carbonate Fuel Cells (MCFC) and Solid Oxide Electrolyzer Cells (SOEC). Notably, FCE's carbonate fuel cells offer unique technology that captures CO2 emissions simultaneously with power generation, minimizing environmental impact. FCE has a proven track record of collaborations in the global data center market, including North America. This MOU with Inuverse for the AI DDC project marks FCE's first direct technology supply of 100MW scale to a hyperscale AI data center in Korea, positioning it as a strategic foothold for expanding into the Asian market.

FCE's fuel cell systems will enhance the operational stability and efficiency of the AI DDC by enabling on-site power generation, reducing reliance on the grid, and providing a predictable long-term energy cost structure.

3. AI Daegu Data Center (AI DDC): Technological Superiority and Scalability

AI DDC is designed with an IT Load of 100MW and a power reception capacity of 150MW, featuring a modular design that allows for phased expansion to over 300MW. This ensures flexible responsiveness to the rapidly evolving AI technology landscape. Targeting a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.3 or less, AI DDC is aiming for top-tier energy efficiency globally.

Furthermore, Inuverse is jointly establishing a Physical AI Testbed based on Private 5G zero-latency infrastructure through a recent partnership with ASOCS (Israel). Preparations are also underway for real-world demonstrations of high-precision applications, including humanoid robots and industrial automation. This signifies that AI DDC will function not merely as a computing infrastructure but as a pivotal platform for future AI technology development and validation.

4. Setting a New Standard for the Sustainable AI Era

The partnership between Inuverse and FCE sets a new standard for data center models in the sustainable AI era. By achieving RE100 and ESG objectives through eco-friendly fuel cell technology, while simultaneously maximizing the stability and efficiency of AI infrastructure, the AI DDC is poised to become a benchmark for next-generation data centers in both domestic and international markets. This collaboration will contribute to Korea's leading role in the global AI and eco-friendly energy sectors, with Inuverse expected to redefine the paradigm of the future data center industry and drive sustainable digital transformation through the AI DDC.
